The Bushmen are the oldest inhabitants of the Kalahari desert, the immense expanse of sand and shrubs between South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. They are an indigenous minority that for years has been asking for their rights and their cultural identity to be respected. They are forced by the government to abandon their ancestral lands, a desert as inhospitable as it is their only source of livelihood. In addition to depriving them of their lands, the local authorities are trying to transform the Bushmen into a settled people, erasing their cultural identity as a nomadic people. Deception Valley is a precise geographical place in the Kalahari Desert, but it is also a metaphor for what its meaning expresses: the Valley of deception. "

Gabriele Zago is an artist who has always been fascinated by the visual arts. He is a photographer and a great traveler, these aspects have always inspired him and allow him to experiment with new communication languages through his works.
Her research focuses on documenting ethnic groups, territories and populations threatened today by progress and globalization through images.Gabriel through graphic expedients and a large post-production work revolutionizes photographic shooting, highlighting in an almost exaggerated and very evident way, the socio-political processes that are often not visible. These are not just photographs, but shots that clearly show everyone a process of modification, distortion and alienation undergone by the subjects portrayed and their territory.
He has exhibited his projects in solo and group exhibitions, in Italy and abroad. Lives and works in Turin.
