Getting in touch with the last few ethnic minorities in the Mu Cang Chai region of North Vietnam was a unique experience. I was able to know their stories only indirectly due to the language barrier and that is why I chose to represent them through a universal language, that of emoticons. These luminous pictographic symbols gravitate around them like an aura, describing their life experience. The rings, depending on the age of the person portrayed, appear in a variable number as if to symbolize the circles in the trunks of the trees. They are tied to their body between the shoulders and the head, there are those who wear them with ease, those who suffer them passively, those who are overwhelmed by them.

Gabriele Zago is an artist who has always been fascinated by the visual arts. He is a photographer and a great traveler, these aspects have always inspired him and allow him to experiment with new communication languages through his works.
Her research focuses on documenting ethnic groups, territories and populations threatened today by progress and globalization through images.Gabriel through graphic expedients and a large post-production work revolutionizes photographic shooting, highlighting in an almost exaggerated and very evident way, the socio-political processes that are often not visible. These are not just photographs, but shots that clearly show everyone a process of modification, distortion and alienation undergone by the subjects portrayed and their territory.
He has exhibited his projects in solo and group exhibitions, in Italy and abroad. Lives and works in Turin.
